Flower girl fiasco: Choose random kid for sake of tradition

A model “bride” playing with a flower girl and a ring bearer boy Casanova behind them

My cousin has two little boys who I absolutely adore. I think it would be cool to have them as ring bearers.

But we don’t know any little girls. Our friends and family have no little girls who are old enough to even stand, let alone walk down the aisle or be a flower girl.

We’re fine with this. What others suggest? Get a random kid.

We mentioned we would be having no flower girl because we don’t know any little girls and someone offered up the daughter of a friend of a friend of a friend’s roommate. Or something. Who we have never met. We didn’t say we wanted a flower girl. Did they just assume we were so desperate to fill this role we’d take ANYBODY? Just because you know this kid doesn’t mean I do.

Sure it’s cute to have a ring bearer and flower girl — essentially a mini bride and groom– walk down the aisle ahead of the real bride and groom.

But we don’t need a random kid we don’t know (or their parents we don’t know) to come to our wedding.

Maybe someone should start a rent-a-kid business. Rent a kid for every occasion! Yoga class full? Rent a kid to get into the mommy-and-me version. Have a toothache but feel silly buying baby food? Rent a kid. Need flower girls and ring bearers? They’ve got you covered. The possibilities are endless.

It would fill a niche and you’d get clients. Google “rent a ring bearer” and you get nothing but mini-me tuxedo links. And Google “rent a flower girl” and you get dress rentals and some DVD, and this link with a disappointingly misleading headline that ends with a post that mentions nothing about a rental.

People actually suggested that? Like as a real option and not a joke? When did weddings become so impersonal and about the show that not having a flowergirl was such a tradgedy that someone would even suggest borrowing a child?
Though, in times like these I might put my kid to work early. How else will they go to college?

LMAO mom just said I should head over to the unemployment office and hire someone there to do it!

Do what we’re doing and don’t have kids at all! Some would say we’re miserable, I prefer the word ‘practical’ – less noise to contend with during vows and less mouth to feed at the wedding breakfast! Haha x
